Microfiber Color-coding & Chemicals

While doing practical training in Jen Hotel, we were getting distributed to each buddy who are the housekeepers of Jen Hotel after getting our name tags and changing our clothed into their uniforms which is pink in colour. Every cleaning Agents, every colour coding microfiber have its own purposes.
After entering the rooms, our buddy showed us the types of chemical cleaning products and the purpose of different colour cleaning cloth which is colour coding microfiber. If you are new and no idea of what is colour coding is an easy way of preventing bacteria transferring from one area into another area. Nearly every industries uses colour coded cleaning, including in medical center, school, nursing homes, restaurant and even in hotels.
In Jen Hotel, the housekeeper was using colour coded cleaning system while cleaning the guest rooms. The reason of applying this colour coded cleaning system is where hygiene, health and safety are of paramount importance. This system was proven as a highly effective way to reduce the spread of bacteria. Preventing cross contamination is a big part in cleaning and housekeeper should take careful steps to prevent cross contamination. Think about it, will you use a cleaning cloth in toilet and wipe down your kitchen counters or use a different cloth? As pictures below are the example of colour coding microfiber that used by our buddy in cleaning the guest rooms.
As we mentioned before, every colour coding microfiber have its own purpose, there are four main colour are used in Jen Hotel. Starting from the right, we have:
· Green: Uses in areas where food is handled and prepared or glass ware in the guest rooms.
· Yellow: Uses in other areas of restroom, including sink and other objects.
· Red: Uses in areas with a higher risk of cross-contamination and spread of bacteria, which is the restrooms and urinals.
· Blue: Uses in areas with a lower risk of cross-contamination, including common areas such as glass and mirrors.
· White: An addition colour to the main 4 colours mentioned above.
Other than that, our buddy also showed us the hand caddies that keeps chemical agents and also called as “ cleaners box “, these were originally made of wood and metal but nowadays usually made of plastic. They consist of a bow with a handle, easy for housekeeper carry cleaning supplies from room to room for guestroom cleaning. After each shift, the cleaning supplies must be cleaned and topped up with replacement supplies for use in the next shift.
Cleaning agents are the most important things of the housekeeping department in their cleaning operation to always keep the guest room neat and clean. Each of the cleaning agents are given a specific code such as R1 (The letter R stands for “Room Care”.) and each area that needs to be clean has its own specific products.
· Diversey R1 – Cleaning and Sanitizing of Bathrooms and Toilet surfaces
Use in cleaning all bathroom surfaces such as sink, tub, tiles, floor and fittings.
· Diversey R2 – All-purpose cleaning agent and Hygiene Hard Surface Cleaner
Use in cleaning all types of floor and walls.
· Diversey R3 – Glass Cleaner and Mirror Cleaner
Use in cleaning window, mirror and glass display cases in guestroom.
· Diversey R4 – Furniture Polish, Cleaning and Maintainer
Use in cleaning all wooden floors and furnishings.
· Diversey R5 – Air, Room, and Bathroom Freshener
Use in cleaning offices, corridors and washrooms.
· Diversey R6 – Toilet bowl cleaner, Heavy-duty toilet bowl and Urinal cleaner for the removal of limescale, stains and other residues.
Use in cleaning toilet bowls and urinals.
· Diversey R7 – For removal of oil and grease
Use in remove those oily and grease from floor and non-abrasive cream cleaner for water-resistant hard surfaces.
· Diversey R8 – Kettle Descaler
Highly effective acid based descaler for kettles, kitchen equipment and shower heads.
· Diversey R9 – Removal of hard stains from the Bathroom Walls and Fittings Fully formulated cleaner for cleaning all fittings and walls in the bathroom, sink, tub, tiles and fittings.
